Climate Change Progress
Governments are finally acceding to warnings from climate scientists concerning climate change due to the rapidly increasing number of extreme weather events. U.S. goals, while fairly ambitious, remain potentially achievable with the major obstacles being political rather than technological. Continue reading

Attrition In Ukraine
Russia’s invasion is shocking due to its anachronistic nature: conflict to achieve territorial conquest seemed to be a thing of the past. Russia is re-learning a difficult truth: – when major powers invade smaller countries, they normally lose. Continue reading

Avoiding Another Recession
Recessions, needless to say, are bad for almost everyone, but a number of factors have combined to produce forecasts of a global economic downturn. The question is, if there is another recession, what will be its extent? Continue reading

Political Dissatisfaction
The U.S. faces numerous fundamental challenges and appears unable to reach any agreement as to how they should be resolved. The widening ideological rift prevents compromise on any but the most basic of issues. Continue reading

Ukrainian Freedom
I believe everyone, nations included, have the right of full self-determination and that their decisions should be freely made without force or coercion. One of the lessons of World War II is that aggression must never be tolerated. Hopefully, the lessons of that conflict still remain sufficiently vivid in collective conscientiousness to have not been forgotten. Continue reading

War On Ukraine
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is the largest conventional military confrontation since World War II. Everyone, nations included, are entitled to the right of self-determination.
In invading Ukraine, Putin has returned the world to its pre-World War II state in which the strong took advantage of the weak, a time when major powers carved up the globe and dominated their regions, back to where authoritarians are once again on the march. Such egregious actions must not be tolerated. Continue reading
