The Problem Of Inflation

Inflation is essentially a decline in the purchasing power of money over time. It can be considered to be two related crises rather than only one. In the first, global disruptions from the pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine prompted inflation to spike around the world. In the second, some countries — including the U.S. — implemented domestic policy decisions that possibly also contributed to domestic inflation. Continue reading

Economic Considerations

Future economic uncertainty involves, among many other possible considerations, a higher and more volatile inflation rate, lower economic growth, a possible recession leading to an economic downturn, and perhaps even market unwillingness to finance additional debt for government borrowing possibly leading to default.
